Blues and Roots Ensemble
About Jazz Lates
Jazz Lates is a series of intimate Jazz events that take place in our wonderful living room. On Friday 24th of January it is with great pleasure that we welcome Blues and Roots Ensemble to the living room stage.
About the artist
An evening showcasing the music of great jazz musician, Charles Mingus; music born out of 40s gospel churches, including everything from open improvised sections to beautiful ballad playing. Mingus’ music served as a social commentary of the poltical turbulance in America through the 40s-70s, all within the context of great, swinging compositions!
Lead by double bassist Ed Babar, Blues and Roots Ensemble is a diverse septet of top international players ranging from South Africa to Sicily, India to Cuba. The band specialise in arrangements of the great bandleader/composer, Charles Mingus, and has quickly grown a reputation for its captivating and raucous performances.
