About Brick Lane Jazz Festival

Bringing together London’s vibrant jazz community under one roof at the Truman Brewery in Shoreditch, Brick Lane Jazz Festival returns in 2023 with some of the most exciting new and established acts on the London Jazz Scene today.

Championing the eclectic and genre-defying artists who represent the London Jazz Scene, Brick Lane Jazz Festival is a unique yearly opportunity to immerse yourself in the newest and most culturally rich sounds coming out of the capital today at a single location. With all festival venues within a minute’s walk of each other, come and discover new music, be part of a diverse community and enjoy the iconic site that is Brick Lane’s Truman Brewery.

This year, Ninety One Living Room stage is curated by internationally renowned record label, artist incubator and not-for-profit organisation Jazz Re:refreshed.

About the artists

HEADLINE ACT: VULA

Born in the USA to South African/Zimbabwean parents – ‘Singer/SongwriterBorn’ Vula is no newcomer to the ever changing music industry. Having started writing and singing at a young age, she began collaborating with some of the industry’s finest DJs and producers, including the likes of Grant Nelson & MJ Cole who gave Vula her first Top 40 UK Single with their song “Wondering Why”.

She’s also been touring heavily since 2014 with UK dance DJ legend Pete Tong and the mighty Heritage Orchestra, where she’s not just a featured vocalist but also the vocal MD for the tours and Tong’s hugely successful Number 1 album – “Ibiza Classics”. 2021 continues to see more future releases with Pete Tong & her solo project “Conversations With…” which includes her most recent single, “Dreaming”.

INSXGHT

INSXGHT is an artist, producer and musician hailing from South East London. Known for his genre-spanning jazz piano, INSXGHT draws inspiration from the likes of Robert Glasper, J Dilla and Spirit Fingers.

Throughout life, INSXGHT found incredible musicians to journey with. These musicians have performed with the likes of Yazmin Lacey, New Familiar (formerly known as skinny living), Lex Amor, Berwyn, Wizkid, and many more. So be prepared for a night of spectacular music with an all-star band … This is one for the books!

TESS HIRST

Tess Hirst released her debut album ‘These Days’ at the end of 2019 with award-winning bassist Daniel Casimir via pioneering London-based record label, Jazz Re:freshed. The album received critical acclaim.

Supported by MOBO, Help Musicians as well as the prestigious PRS Women Make Music Fund, Tess has recorded a brand new album due for release in 2023. Tess’ debut solo album features a star lineup of the UK Jazz community, Richard Spaven, Daniel Casimir and Sarah Tandy as well as Tomorrow’s Warriors ‘String Ting’.

PSYKHOMANTUS DJ SET

Former DMC champion and international DJ, DJ Psykhomantus bridges the gap and connects the dots between Hip Hop, Bruk and other progressive music genres as well as showcasing the whole spectrum of Turntablism. Psykhomantus is known for Playing Past (Soul, Funk), Present (Hip Hop, Soulful House) and Future (Broken Beat, Nu Jazz, Electronica) music in his set. Inspired by DJ Cash Money, DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Spinna and IG Culture, his love of music shines through in everything he does on two turntables and a mixer.

HANDSON FAMILY

Local South London husband and wife team, Handson Family (Cyndi Anafo & Chris Ellis) have been DJing and promoting primarily independent music in the capital primarily for over two decades.

Passionate about South London’s legacy of Black music club culture and the community they were raised in, HF have turned their hands to many creative ventures beyond DJing including sound creation, booking artists, client tailored events, running pop up spaces and social media content management.
