About Miles Spilsbury

Miles Spilsbury is a saxophonist, composer and multi-instrumentalist. His debut solo album Light Manoeuvres, set to be released on Rush Hour in October 2023, features Carlos Niño on percussion and is produced by Slugabed. He is bringing the music of Light Manoeuvres to 91 Living Room with a quartet featuring Cameron Dawson (Vels Trio), Jake Long (Maisha, Gary Bartz) & Oliver Cadman (Nubiyan Twist, John Carroll Kirby).

Light Manoeuvres is Spilsbury’s first full-length album as bandleader, and the Brighton-based artist brings more than a decade of experience to bear on this record. He’s worked with a wide range of collaborators including Carlos Niño, Slugabed, Iglooghost, Nate Mercereau, Surya Botofasina and Yasei Collective, and is also part of celebrated avant-rock experimentalists The Physics House Band. He has performed at prestigious UK venues such as the Southbank Centre and the London Jazz Festival, and has toured extensively throughout North America, Europe and Japan.

Spilsbury’s music mines a depth of jazz & fusion influences, ambient, and the freeform edges of improvisation, without being beholden to any style in particular. The music will follow the tides one minute, adhering to dense arrangements, then leap into the open void the next, as textured soundscapes blur into aerial saxophone adventuring.
