Jazz Lates: Jonny Liebeck
About the artist
Born and raised in West London, Jonny started his musical life playing the Church Organ at Mass every Sunday from the age of 13. During his late teen years, although progressing rapidly as anorganist, Jonny started to teach himself jazz piano.
Jonny gigs all over London and has performed at The Vortex Jazz Club, Toulouse Lautrec, Oliver’s Jazz Bar, Bush Hall, Boisdale of Canary Wharf, Boisdale of Mayfair, and Blackheath Concert Halls in London. Furthermore, he has played for award-winning British singer songwriter Emeli Sandé MBE as well as alongside Cuban jazz legend Omar Puente, and Soul legend Mica Paris at The Round Chapel in Clapton.
Jonny is also a very active composer releasing his debut album “Mellow Mind” in 2020 as a follow up from his 2019 EP “New Days & Past Times”. His composition style varies between influences of Latin jazz, modern jazz, soulful grooves and Afro-Cuban music. Hi sound is characterised by a mix of soulful and modal harmony, soulful guitar melodies, Latin and groove influenced bass lines withfunky drum grooves. His debut album features 9 of his original compositions with his amazing band:
Boris Latinov (Guitar) – Member of the band Stratos, Tomorrow’s Warriors and also prevalent in multiple genres within the London music scene.
Rio Kai (Bass) – Mercury Prize nominated bassist who is a member of the bands Nérija, Seed Ensemble and Stratos, and also a member of Tomorrow’s Warriors.
Andrew McLean (Drums) – Multi-instrumentalist who has played drums for a range of artist from Mark Ronson to Corinne Bailey Rae and Don-E. Andrew currently tours with the inimitable Grace Jones.
The quartet will showcase tunes from the debut album as well as some personal favourites from the “New Days & Past Times” EP and exclusive new tunes made during the lockdown. Join us for what is going to be an amazing night of awesome original written music played by the finest jazz talents.
