About the artist
Robert Mitchell presents his latest group – TRUE THINK. This performance was postponed from 2020 and features this superb 5tet in a debut at the club. The concert will feature original music and poetry inspired by the rapid political, cultural and environmental changes in recent times. Robert Mitchell will be joined on stage by the brilliance of this unique band featuring – Alice Zawadzki – vocals/violin, Tom Mason – Bass/Keys, Saleem Raman – Drums and Zayn Mohammed – Guitars.
Robert Mitchell is an award-winning pianist, composer, key player, arranger, bandleader, teacher, songwriter and poet. He has released 10 albums and is a Steinway Artist. Robert has made his mark on jazz scene over last 30 years with his outstanding inventive skills and is an impactful powerhouse. Whether performing in the solo context or with his ensemble, this composer/pianist’s focus is on the highest ideals of the essence of jazz.
One of Robert’s more recent projects was his live solo piano album ‘The Rainbow Mountain/Can We Care’. He worked as MD on a BBC4 tribute to the great 60s TV show – Jazz 625 Live: For One Night Only (performing with Joshua Redman and Jacqui Dankworth and featuring Gregory Porter). It won Best Music Programme at the 2020 Broadcast Awards. He won a 2020 Hamlyn Award for Composition – and has written for the grammy winners Bournemouth Symphony Chorus and London Sinfonietta. His reputation has consistently grown as one of the UK’s most serious and respected composer/pianists. He is a professor of piano at the Guildhall School and Piano lecturer at Leeds Conservatoire. His next release is a duo with cellist Shirley Smart (out in early 2022 on the Discus Label). The debut album of True Think is on the way and features guests from the US, France, Japan and South Africa.
