ABOUT ‘A VOICE LESSON’
Voice coach Orla, meets a 12 year old called Nin. Overwhelmed by the world outside but determined to be a performer one day, Nin seeks Orla’s teaching to find her authentic voice. Guided by friends, caught between the old and the new, A Voice Lesson is a celebration of difference.
Created by Kendell Foster, Sandeep Gurrapadi, Marina Hata, Zahra Mansouri, Anna-Helena McLean, Liv Penny and Erin Nicole Washington.
Through 4 weeks of Arts Council England funded research and development this year Director, Anna-HelenaMcLean, formulated the idea for a new split stage opera and community development programme (The Identity Choir). 𝘼 𝙑𝙤𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙇𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙤𝙣 focuses a unique combination of laboratory theatre techniques and multidisciplinary collaboration, through a feminist ethical lens. Departing from 2 text sources in Orlando (Woolf) and Inanna (1450 BC) the production provokes vital conversations around agency, access and inclusion. This screening shares behind the scenes footage alongside moments from the BPA showcase with a view to engaging partner support for the full scale tour in 2025. This is a VIP event and special opportunity to get involved in the company’s next steps. There will be time to meet the team and ask questions with free drinks reception and late night lounge.
