About the event
We are delighted to present a very special night of music as we welcome back Tina Edwards and Marlon George who played the Friday and Saturday nights of the Brick Lane Jazz Festival earlier this year.
Favouring music that was irresistibly danceable, we can’t wait for more of the same from the pair. Expect all the good stuff: Disco, Soul, RnB, Afro, Latin, House & Techno as we run later than usual until 3 am. We welcome you to an impromptu party held in our intimate Ninety One with two selectors that care about music. Let’s see what happens.
About Tina Edwards
One of the most curious and respected selectors in the UK, Tina Edwards joins the dots between Jazz and club culture.
At home on Worldwide FM – where she’s been a resident for five years – Tina brings together a broad range of sounds; think contemporary and uncovered gems; large-scale jazz, funk, disco, a spectrum of house music and even left-field pop. Nothing is off the table, following in the footsteps of eclectic diggers Folamour and Hunee. The spirit of the UK Jazz sound – which Tina has been championing through her radio and presenting projects since 2014 – is at the epicentre of everything she does.
Tina Edwards has shared line-ups with Gilles Peterson, Colleen Cosmo Murphy, Charlie Dark and Craig Charles. She made her Boiler Room debut in the first lockdown, and is a member of admired communities including Total Refreshment Centre, Worldwide FM and many more within London’s thriving creative scene. Tina played her first festival season in 2021, performing at Lost Village, All Points East, We Out Here and Wild Paths. She holds a Box Park residency all year round.
Tina knows how to win over a room’s trust, to introduce them to something fresh – whether it’s an unexpected change of mood or a hop from a classic to obscurity. That’s why her sets can be heard in a variety of spots, from JazzFM to Radio alHara. She also hosts radio shows for BBC Radio 3 (Jazz Fix) and hosts/produces her series Next Big Thing for British Airways.
About Marlon George
Marlon George is a British music producer, DJ and sound designer living in London. He is a classically trained double bassist, enrolling at the Royal College of Music at six years old.
A complete vinyl head, Marlon’s wealth of experience as a DJ has seen him play in shows up and down the UK. His smiley sets have been heard in institutions like fabric and 93 Feet East, whilst he also enjoys longer, extended sessions in bars like HWK and Boxpark. Marlon’s sensitivity as a selector and ability to whip up a crowd recently grabbed the attention of Worldwide FM, who hosted a guest mix from him in February last month.
As a producer, his tracks were noticed by house music legend Phil Weeks late last year, and a four track EP quickly ensued on Robsoul Recordings. The EP went on to reach top spot in the Jackin’ House chart on Beatport and was featured in Defected’s Ibiza 2022 compilation on Spotify & Apple Music. Impressed too were DJ Mag USA, who did a bubbler on Marlon as ‘One to Watch’ in their Febuary ’22 print and online magazine.
2022 has already been a fantastic start for Marlon, and whilst he continues to focus on his businesses, (he also does graphics and teaches) Marlon will finally do a release on vinyl this summer.
