George Garford Quintet
About Jazz Lates
Jazz Lates is a series of intimate Jazz events that take place in our wonderful living room. On Friday 28th of February it is with great pleasure that we welcome George Garford Quintet to the living room stage.
About the artist
George Garford (saxophonist/composer) brings his brand new quintet to Ninety One Living Room to perform a set of dynamic original compositions. Formed in late 2019 to perform George’s writing, the group combines five distinguished young improvisers – each making their own mark on the London jazz scene:
Daniel Kemshell – Guitar
Tom Morley – Piano
Sam Ingvorsen – Bass
Adam Woodcock – Drums
George Garford – Alto Saxophone / Compositions
Hailing from Cambridgeshire, George moved to London in 2017 to study at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance where he studies under Julian Siegel, Mark Lockheart and Mike Williams. A confident bandleader and sideman, George has performed at prestigious venues such as Ronnie Scott’s, Oliver’s Jazz Bar, Royal Albert Hall, Southbank Centre, Rick Mix (LJF), Snape Maltings and Hot Numbers. He is an alumnus of Aldeburgh Young Musicians (2014-17), co-leads experimental duo ‘Solmonath’ with Georgia Morgan Turner and plays with NYJO.
George’s compositional style is inspired in equal parts by British jazz giants (John Taylor / Kenny Wheeler) and the contemporary New York scene (Will Vinson / Ben Wendel). The quintet will debut unique works written for this date.
