About Raffy Bushman
Having honed his craft alongside like-minded musicians over the years as musical director of Unit 31, and founder of The NuShape Orchestra, Raffy’s music tells the honest and personal story of his lifelong musical journey through Hip Hop, Jazz, Classical, and Gospel, all major voices contributing to his own individual sound.
Raffy’s 2020 debut EP ‘Look Up’ caught the attention of the likes of Jazz FM, WWFM, Stepping Tiger, Music Is My Sanctuary, Bandcamp Weekly and Soho Radio with strong editorial support from Spotify, the EP currently sitting at just over 600k streams.
Being absent of social media channels, Raffy put together a short documentary about the making of his EP which received a lot of positive feedback from the artist community and media in the jazz and beyond space.
His second EP ‘A Beginner’s Mind’ saw him work with a new band featuring drummer Finn Booth and bass player Mikele Montolli. “This is a piece about being conflicted and not knowing the best way through a difficult situation. I wrote it in the most honest manner all the way to the sonic world, being as natural as we could.”
The EP was supported by Gilles Peterson, Mary Ann Hobbs and Jamie Cullum to name a few, Jamie inviting Raffy for an interview on BBC 2. Here again, Raffy made a mini-documentary about the making of the EP which Amazing Radio US and UK picked up on, playing the entirety of the EP across several shows on the station and releasing an interview that sits on their YouTube channel.
