About Shanaz Dorsett
Shanaz Dorsett is a singer-songwriter based in South London. A bold storyteller, her music is borne from a curiosity for human conversation. Inspired by chats eavesdropped on the tube, her Turkish and Caribbean aunties gossiping and memories from her adolescence in Houston, Texas, her sound stems from her belief that even our most everyday stories deserve to be retold.
“Be Afraid” is the first offering from a series of singles Shanaz is releasing this year. A brash call to action for women to speak their truths without shame, the powerful single marks Shanaz’s own bravery to return to the spotlight and delivers her fresh take on neo-soul. New material blends her signature witty lyricism with bold hip-hop production by Amarah (Earthgang, Smino) and can be placed beside artists such as Sampha and Jamila Woods as work that cuts to the heart of human experiences.
